Marconi Magic Box

The Marconi Magic Box Project originates on the occasion of the anniversary of Guglielmo Marconi’s Nobel Prize in Physics, awarded on December 10, 1909, in the context of the activities promoted and acknowledged by La Fondazione Guglielmo Marconi (the Guglielmo Marconi Foundation) and the Comitato Nazionale per le Celebrazioni del Centenario del Premio Nobel a Guglielmo Marconi (National Committee for the celebrations of Guglielmo Marconi Nobel Prize centenary). Created by Alessandro Rossi - who is the Project Manager too – promoted and realized by Cinecittà Luce, Alessandro Giupponi and Alessandra Infascelli, Marconi Magic Box Project has as its core a series of OFF and ON-LINE activities.  The Portal you are now consulting is the “virtual” centre of this second group of activities.

Marconi Magic Box is a gateway portal and has THREE distinct and converging aims :

01Honouring the centenary of the Nobel Prize award to Guglielmo Marconi, through the publication, promotion and diffusion of historical notes, bio-bibliographical info as well of the docufilm Il Mago delle Onde (The waves magician), dedicated to the young scientist’s youth;

02Proceeding to the reorganization, cataloguing and promotion of the information on the resources related to Marconi on the web and in the “real world”;

03Spreading information, news and “curiosities” on the new global communication era (defined ”Wireless Universe”) inaugurated by Guglielmo Marconi, on the technological progresses derived from Marconi’s scientific inheritance and on the international research.

The gateway Portal Marconi Magic Box owes its name to one of the first off-the-record definitions< of radio, as it was coined by Queen Victoria. The expression ”magic box” - with an indirect reference also to the English lexeme meaning the “musical box “ – is here understood as a magic box full of surprises and potentialities and it can be linked intuitively both to radio and to the Internet network itself, the “magic box” of the third millennium. Marconi Magic Box will make use of the advice and contributions of both leading experts, recognized worldwide, and young talents of the world of communication and will be oriented to networking through synergic activities on the most popular Social Networks. Among the contributions that will be hosted in the Portal, we would like to point out from now: important materials omitted from the final editing of the docufilm on Guglielmo Marconi, "Il Mago delle Onde" (The wave magician); exclusive interviews to personalities of the world of culture, science, media and technology; vortals dedicated to technological developments derived from Marconi's insights and achievements, which were carried out by important TLC world leaders and other industrial channels; contributions of scientists and thinkers.

All the project initiatives intend to lay the “media” foundations for what might be called Marconi Project 2012. Promoting today these countless activities of scientific development and diffusion might lead indeed to establish a science enrichment until 2012 (year of commemoration of  the Titanic sinking anniversary, occurred on April 15, 1912, tragic event that showed to the world the usefulness of radio broadcasts).
